Meet the Team

We don’t have to do it alone, we were never meant to.

Karen Carpenter

EMCC Senior Practitioner

Founder and Creative Director

Those who know me, know that my first love is my horses. But, I also have a passion for history. These days, my interest is fairly broad, not confined to any particular era – but, it started with an embroidery kit of Anne Boleyn that I was given as a young child. I have never actually liked embroidery so, as a ten-year-old, I only ever managed a few untidy stitches before giving up. Nevertheless, I was fascinated by the image of the ill-fated queen and, over the years, found myself increasingly drawn to the Tudor period. Then, as my nursing career progressed through the ranks, I found myself increasingly noticing the lessons of history and relating them to some of the tough situations I encountered myself – situations where it really did seem that any day your head might roll! I didn’t realise at the time, but these small insights provided the first seeds of the idea that was, much later, to become Karen Carpenter Events.

They were not the only seeds. Over the years I have gathered inspiration from...

...many familiar, and sometimes less likely, sources. The coach training that I completed in 2012 included a day’s insight into coaching with horses and it is certainly true that many of my ideas have emerged whilst spending quality time with my equine friends. I also read – a lot – across a broad range of coaching, business, and leadership topics. As a coach, I often recommend books that I think will resonate with individual clients - and I regularly use analogies to help speed up the process of understanding and depersonalize difficult situations. It is, after all, much easier to think freely about somebody else’s challenges than our own.

So, the events you will find here are an eclectic mix of topics that interest and intrigue me. What connects them is the golden thread of lessons learned in life, leadership, and business. My hope is that you too will find value in following the connections, wherever they may lead you.

Sunrise Sadiq (aka Barney)

Retired Arabian Racehorse

Creative Muse

Consistently placed over three seasons and a winner over 12 furlongs, Sunrise Sadiq (aka Barney) has been my companion for over 30 years and is the inspiration for my first solo zoom event, ‘No More Horsing Around: Lessons in performance management from a retired racehorse’. Having survived a near fatal field injury in 1999 that resulted in his early retirement from competition, Barney’s bold approach to life and quirky temperament remains a constant source of new material for the ‘Equine Collection’. Now enjoying his twilight years with little Harley as a naughty companion, Barney still makes the occasional guest appearance during online events - truth be told, without Barney Karen Carpenter Events might never have come into existence.

Kristina Rosenqvist

Leadership & Performance Coach

Associate Facilitator, Co-host of Coach Chat

After a long and successful career in the corporate world of IT - during the course of which, she worked in many different countries and, year on year, achieved the accolades of ‘top individual contributor’ and ‘top performing manager’ - in 2011, Kristina came to the realisation that she was enjoying the coaching aspect of her role, supporting colleagues to achieve their goals and gain promotions, far more than the obligatory spreadsheets. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she recognised it was time for a change and made the bold decision to resign from her job and formally retrain as a coach.

Completing her training in 2013, Kristina now works as a leadership and performance coach where her lived experience of...

...high pressure, fast paced, quota-oriented cultures enables her to quickly connect with her clients, supporting them to think deeply, plan strategically and, ultimately, perform at their best. Swedish by nationality, Kristina has been a resident of the UK since 1998. She continues to enjoy travelling but balances this with home life and a passion for growing vegetables.
