In the land of the Giants

Applying the wisdom of traditional folklore to modern business scenarios.

Once upon a time, in a land bereft of social media, there lived a rare breed of children known as the 'talent of tomorrow'. They didn’t know it then, but the stories they were reading would have a profound effect on the adults they would become. Transported to a time and place where magic was as abundant as the fairies in the forest, they quickly learned to recognize the importance of resourcefulness, perseverance, and resilience in achieving the things that were most important to them. Sadly, as the years progressed, some of the children became distracted. They began to forget the lessons they had learned and became stuck in lives that were no longer exciting or fun. But others stayed focused on what they wanted to achieve. They worked hard putting the lessons into practice until, one day, as if by magic, they emerged as the business leaders of their generation. Hosted by Karen Carpenter, this is an interactive event rediscovering the age old wisdom contained within some of our best loved fairy tales and exploring how this relates to our happy ever after as business leaders operating in a complex world of giants and dragons.

Bah Humbug!

What’s haunting you in your business this Christmas?

Most of us are familiar with Charles Dickens’ story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, the mean spirited miser who had no compassion for those worse off than himself, and resented the annual disruption to business caused by Christmas. Alone on Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his dead partner, Jacob Marley who heralds the arrival of three spirits; the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come. During the course of one night, the three spirits reveal to Scrooge the trajectory of his life, prompting him to re-evaluate his choices, and mend his ways. Hosted by Karen Carpenter, this is an interactive event during which we will explore how the lessons of the three spirits may be relevant to modern business, and share strategies for maintaining a successful work/life balance. Christmas jumpers and other festive attire all welcome.

It's a Wonderful Life Really!

Lessons in resilience from Clarence the Guardian Angel.

Every time a bell rings, an angel wins its wings. So says Clarence, the angel sent to rescue George Bailey following a financial crisis that has brought him to the brink of bankruptcy and self obliteration. 'It's a Wonderful Life' is a long time festive favourite; a tear jerking, feel good story about the value of every life and the miracles that are happening all around us, whether or not we choose to notice. And for business owners, like George himself, it conveys another powerful message - a message articulated so well by Simon Sinek in his book, 'Start With WHY'. Hosted by Karen Carpenter, this will be an interactive event, during which we will explore the importance of understanding WHY it is that we do what we do, and consider the strategies we need in place to honour our purpose whilst, at the same time, staying true to our core values and living a life of presence and joy.
